Just my rambling, plus whatever book I've recently read!
I've been busy these past few months. This latest book has changed so many times, but I'm pleased to say I've reached the end! I'm not doing a big release with this one, so it will be available #FREE on Kindle Unlimited from 21st June, or $4.99 to buy. Click HERE if you would like to pre-order. It will also be available as a paperback. An exciting thing for me is that To Catch a Dream is going on tour! Yes, that's right. You heard me! The wonderful ladies at Goddess Fish Promotions have done some awesome work and will be promoting my latest from June 28 to July 16. If you fancy joining in, please click HERE With good friends and a new job and, twenty-six-year-old Caitlin has it all. Strong, independent, and content with her life, Caitlin isn’t looking for love. Not only that, but Cat refuses to choose between a new man and her two best friends. With her heart on the line, Caitlin must decide if she's prepared to take a chance or play it safe. Genres: Young Adult, Paranormal, Romance, Historical Blurb: For generations the Incenaga Witches have been forced to use their power to fulfill the wishes of others until they are drained of their magic and left to die. Desperate to protect his infant daughter - the last surviving witch - Emmeline's father escapes with her to the forests where he vows to keep her hidden from the world and from the truth. Sixteen years later, Emmeline is discovered and finds herself in the grip of a traitor who will stop at nothing to get what he wants, even if it means abusing her power until she dies. She is taken to a distant country and told she must marry the Crown Prince or her own country will be overtaken, its people slaughtered. But what sort of prince would marry a witch? And why would she be the difference between war and peace? As she fights to regain her freedom, she is faced with a choice between a prince who offers a lifetime of security and a common gamekeeper who has no idea of her power, but offers his heart. But who do you trust when your power can be used against you? My Thoughts: THE LAST WITCH is the first book in the Incenaga series, and we start off in the dark just as much as Emmaline is. We stay by Emmaline's side throughout, learning as she does about who and what she is, what she can do, and the dangers involved. The idea behind the Incenaga Witches was brilliant, and allows us to see Emmaline as she comes to understand the power and the danger. I loved how it was something that could be used against her, and yes, I know that sounds odd! Trust me though, if you read it, it will make sense. I promise! The world building, descriptions, and character building are all brilliant, leading to a slightly predictable but oh so enjoyable story that sets up book two excellently. This was a great read that I thoroughly enjoyed, and have no hesitation in recommending. Debbie Dee recently moved to southern Idaho with her husband and three children where she is learning how to be a country girl in her favorite pair of blue heels. She adores fairy tales and happy endings, but secretly crushes on the bad guy now and then.
As a dedicated musician who practices way too much, she never expected writing would sweep her off her feet until she jotted down a scene from a daydream, which turned into two scenes, which turned into a messy house and her first novel. Since then she hasn’t been able to let a day go by without writing. In addition to writing, she plays the piano, harp, violin, and gets in frequent fights with her cello. She loves to read and play board games - when she is winning. Genres: Fantasy, Adventure Blurb: Before there was Dun Lady’s Jess… Magic, betrayal, and a twice-cursed exile–only one man’s determination can untangle the deadly intrigue that binds them together. When Ehren’s sovereign and friend was killed, Ehren, First of the King’s Guard, was far away — sent on a wild goose chase by the First Level Ministry, whose number he now believes must contain at least one traitor. When a First Level wizard orders him to stop searching for the assassins and instead to find and neutralize the dead king’s distant family, his suspicions deepen to near certainty. And Ehren is determined to find those exiles – if only so that he may guard them with his life. My Thoughts: BARRENLANDS is a prequel action and adventure high fantasy story that starts of with the betrayal and murder of Benlan, the King of Solvany. This starts a set of events that rocks the world that Ehren knows, and with it, just who he can trust. Whilst I thoroughly enjoyed this story, I wish we'd been given more information about Varien. He was the big bad from the start, giving out dodgy missions and trying to kill our hero. However, we never really learn WHY. Ehren guesses it's power or greed, but doesn't know for sure. Maybe more information is given in subsequent books, I don't know. All in all, I enjoyed this foray into different lands, with different obstacles to overcome. If you are looking for a high fantasy that will leave you wanting the next book immediately, then I can definitely recommend this one. Doranna Durgin is an award-winning author (the Compton Crook for Best First SF/F/H novel) whose quirky spirit has led to an extensive and eclectic publishing journey across genres, publishers, and publishing lines. Beyond that, she hangs around outside her Southwest mountain home with horse and highly accomplished competition dogs. She doesn't believe in mastering the beast within, but in channeling its power--for good or bad has yet to be decided! She says, “My books are SF/F, mystery, paranormal romance, & romantic suspense. My world is the Southwest, and my dogs are Beagles!”
Doranna’s most recent releases encompass the three books of the Reckoners trilogy--a powerful ghostbuster raised by a spirit, her brilliantly eccentric backup team, a cat who isn't a cat, and a fiercely driven bounty hunter from a different dimension who brings them together when worlds collide. Genres: Paranormal, Romance Blurb: "My lifetime wish was to become extraordinary..." When shy Cassandra Stone meets gorgeous Alexander Grayson, he captivates her heart. He is handsome, charming, sweet, and mysterious - and completely out of her league! But strange events pull Cassie and her puppy, Astra, deep into the magical life of Alex and his family. As Cassie and Alex fall in love, Cassie learns she and Astra are vital to the Graysons' world and she must fit her life around her new role as Star Kin. "...but extraordinary lives come at a price." Then the Graysons' cruel enemies threaten to claim Cassie and Astra. Alex and his friends must protect them, but facing this threat may destroy Cassie and Alex's blossoming romance. Sacrifice is key when defending the first human Star Kin. Will their love be enough to keep the star-crossed pair together? Can Cassie learn how to protect Astra and help her new friends when she is only a fragile human? And who can Cassie turn to when her secret life as a Star Kin is falling apart? My Thoughts: THE CELESTIAL KIN is the first book in The Heart Stone Trilogy, and I read it in one sitting. I was completely engrossed in Cassie's story, and now I can't wait to find out more. Cassie hasn't had the easiest childhood, with her dad dying and intense bullying at a previous school, but things are good now. They get even better when Alex and his family shows up in town. Things don't always go their way though, and Cassie will have to draw on reserves she didn't even know she had. I did find this Twilight-esque with a twist in places, but I didn't find that a detraction from the story that Evie Asterwyn has made her own. I love the idea of shape-shifting stars! I'm hoping in the next book I will learn more about the Star Kin and Clans, but there was more than enough information here to keep me informed of what was going on. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed this story and have no hesitation in recommending it. Also, when is book two available?! I am a 34 year old writer from New Zealand. I write Young Adult fantasy fiction, and am working on my series entitled "The Star Kin Chronicles". I have been writing since 2011, with a small hiatus while I attended Massey University during 2013 - 2016, to obtain my Dip, Arts. My favorite genres to read are suspense/thrillers (i.e. Dean Koontz), mysteries (i.e. Agatha Christie), humor (i.e. Janet Evanovich - definitely read her work, its fabulous!) fantasy (i.e. Anne McCaffery), and I am always on the lookout for new authors to enjoy.
I had previously self-published my first novel -Extraordinary Part 1. It was part of a 2 part book - the first in the Star Kin Chronicles. I have learned lots about writing, editing, and preparing to market e-books, and have, in the process, decided to re-write and re-publish this book as a trilogy. Watch this space, as I will be re-releasing the first book of the trilogy this year, and will be organising updates to my Facebook Author Page and a brand new website. I can also be found on Twitter. HIRAETHComing 8th March 2021 but now available for pre-order https://books2read.com/Hiraeth2021 Ellis Clarke goes on holiday to Beddgelert and finds more than she bargained for. Ellis Clarke has never felt at home anywhere, always feeling a sense of nostalgia for somewhere that she doesn’t know. When she goes to Beddgelert on vacation, she is overwhelmed by the feeling of belonging. Of course, the handsome Luke may have something to do with that. Luke Maddox is a Guardian of Wales, a red Dragon who patrols the skies with the rest of his Weyr. When he meets Ellis and she is welcomed home by Merlin, he knows he has found the other half of him... but only if Ellis acknowledges him. How will she claim him when she has no knowledge of being either a Guardian or a Dragon? Will Ellis find and accept her lost responsibility or will Luke fade away before she figures it out? 'Hiraeth is a Welsh word for homesickness or nostalgia, an earnest longing or desire, or a sense of regret.' #Contemporary #MagicalRealism #Wales #Hiraeth #Dragons Genres: Young Adult, Paranormal, Romance Blurb: Sixteen-year-old Perdita Rivers has spent her entire sheltered life being told what to do. Lately, she’s felt ready for a change, and the universe seems to agree. Her new best friend’s brother is the boy of Perdita’s dreams. Literally. Even though he plays hot and cold, she’s sure there’s more to it, but she’s kind of distracted by the sense she’s being followed - not to mention the rumours of wild animal sightings that seem to mean more to her new crush’s family than they should. Perdy’s on a mission to find the truth, but maybe the truth is the danger she should hide from, after all. My Thoughts: VERITY is the first book in the Cursed series and we start off with invisible Perdy, a sixteen-year-old on the fringes of her school, stuck in the middle of a strict father and a live-and-let-live grandmother. Perdita's life is about to change and she wants to know why. I thoroughly enjoyed every word of this new series! The emotions - the extreme highs and lows of being a teenager - were perfectly written and explained... for the most part. I'm sure some of it was to tease you into the next book, which worked for me because that's what I've just gone and bought. In fact, I bought the box set just to make sure I didn't miss out. If you are looking for a paranormal young adult book to sink your teeth into, then I can definitely recommend this one. With hormones, wolves, curses, it's got everything you could think of! Claire is an Irish author who spends her days separating warring toddlers.
When all five children are in bed, she overdoses on caffeine in the hope she can stay awake long enough to write some more dark flash fiction, y/a paranormal romance and urban fantasy. Woot! Today's the day I get to show you my latest book baby - Hiraeth.
Hiraeth is with the Beta Readers right now, with a release date of 8th March. I am currently waiting for the pre-order through the big 'Zon! Here's the blurby bit for you: Ellis Clarke has never felt at home anywhere, always feeling a sense of nostalgia for somewhere that she doesn’t know. 'Hiraeth is a Welsh word for homesickness or nostalgia, an earnest longing or desire, or a sense of regret.' So, what do you think? Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy Blurb: Kassia is a 16-year-old girl just trying to have a normal life. This is somewhat difficult because she has the ability to inflict pain on others with her mind, which is why she was sent to a special institute for kids with various gifts. It is here Kassia met her best friend Mira. Their lives will change forever after Mira is attacked and Kassia finds out her talent is much more powerful when she saves her. Little did she know that this act would attract the attention of demons. Suddenly, she is on the run from them with her boyfriend, Mira, and a few of their close friends. Realizing she can’t outrun the demons, she seeks the guidance of a shaman. The shaman tells her the heart breaking news that the only way to protect her friends and the institute is through her own death. Join Kassia on her journey of friendship, love, and the conflicts she must face to protect those around her. The Ultimate Sacrifice is approximately 60,300 words. The Ultimate Sacrifice is recommended for grade 9 and up. The Ultimate Sacrifice is the FIRST book in The Gifted Teens Series. Roots and Wings is the SECOND book in The Gifted Teens Series. Unbreakable is the THIRD book in The Gifted Teens Series. My Thoughts: THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE tells a fast-paced story about what it is like to be born special, even amongst the different. Kassia had problems keeping her emotions under control. This is a bad thing because she is able to cause pain, and even death, just by thinking about it. She has her own little support group in her BFF Mira, Noe, Auralee, Zane, and her love, Daxton. The title of the book sort of gives away the main part of the story, but like most good books, the fun is getting to that part. This IS fast-paced so you need to read it carefully and not skim, otherwise a month has passed and you missed the reference that told you so. I found this to be a gripping story that engaged my emotions. It was incredibly well-written and I loved every word. This book is concluded nicely with a small teaser that will definitely leave you wanting more. Absolutely recommended by me. When Talia isn’t hiding in the bathroom from her children munching on a chocolate bar, she enjoys hiking the red rocks or sitting on the beach with a Kindle in her hands and her toes in the ocean. She loves to create worlds and characters and often finds herself living through her stories. Talia is no stranger to labels and judgment. She has slowly been developing her voice for those who need help speaking up. She believes that someday labels will be a thing of the past, that sexuality will be fluid, love will be love, and mental illness will be handled with love and care.
Talia has written a number of books including Damaged: Natalie’s Story, Teagan’s Story: Her Battle with Epilepsy, If I Die Young, Secret Bloodline, Lost and Found, Falling for Fire, Touch of Death, The Gifted Teens Series, The Between Worlds Series and The Beyond Earth Series. Stay tuned for Talia has many other stories swirling in her head and she can't wait to introduce you to new characters. Connect with Talia online at http://www.taliajager.com Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy Blurb: All eighteen-year-old Ri wants is to cure her adoptive father Samuel from his hallucination-inducing illness. Everyone in her village tells her it's impossible. But when she meets two newcomers in the forest--a gruff rogue with a vendetta against the gods and a charming fugitive with the power to travel through water--she'll be torn away from Samuel and swept across the sea to an oppressed city governed by a ruthless tyrant. Once there, she'll not only have to confront Samuel's unlawful past, but a vicious evil that threatens all mankind. In this tale of bravery, friendship, and unexpected love, Ri must discover her own strength to save the men she cares for. My Thoughts:
THE WATERFALL TRAVELER is the first book in The Waterfall Traveler series although I can't actually find the second book. This tells the story of Ri, an outcast in her village who loves and cares for Samuel, an elderly man suffering from The Sickness. She meets mysterious men in the Dark Woods and ends up being taken to a completely different place where all she wants to do is return home. There are a handful of characters who assist her along the way - Bryce (the Waterfall Traveler), Carter (his future-telling friend), Katie (Carter's sister who has healing powers over plants), and Baxter (a guard in the valley they all come from). Carter was a character I didn't care for much to begin with but he grew on me and left me broken-hearted. Katie is a character who has the possibility to be strong but we don't really see much of her. Which leaves us with Bryce and Baxter and the love triangle you just know is going to happen before it does. There are a couple of twists at the end that you may or may not see coming. Overall, this was a good read that was a tad slow in places, but then the pace picked up and it became enthralling once more. If you like young adult fantasy with a love triangle, then this just might be the one for you so long as you can ignore the sort of cliffhanger ending with no second book in sight. #ChristmasCountdown #christmas #christmastree #xmas #love #merrychristmas #christmasdecor #winter #christmastime #handmade #santa #santaclaus #christmaslights #snow #family #christmasiscoming #holidays #christmasdecorations #holiday #christmasgifts #noel #gift #december
