Just my rambling, plus whatever book I've recently read!

My first book of 2018 is one I've had sat on my Kindle for a while. It's called Love's Dawning (Prophecy of the Flame #1), and it is by Lynn Hardy. I haven't read any of her work before, so I was looking forward to it.

This book is about a group of people to attend a Live Action Role Playing event at a hotel. Our main character, Rebecca, plays video games but hasn't got the heart to tell her husband that video games and LARPG is different. They have just had their first event when Rebecca's group are whisked away to another world, where demons are knocking on the door. Their physical appearances changed, and Rebecca becomes Reba. Due to the change in her appearance, they think she is The One that was foretold long ago to save them when times are dire.

Rebecca falls into the role of Reba all too easily, and using her magic comes naturally - including a spell to increase her bust size and make sure she doesn't 'sag' with age! There are a few minor disputes within the group, but it is sorted out quickly enough. The main part of the storyline is the prophecy will foretells that The One will rule, and marriage is also mentioned. This means that Alex, the elder prince, takes it upon himself to seduce Reba at every opportunity.

This bit for me was the bit that let it down. Alex was too easily placed in the 'spoiled prince' camp, which in turn made him one-dimensional. Having his younger brother to provide a foil, with a hint of attraction, was also good, but once again, a bit too easy. The relationship between the sister and two brothers was more realistic, and I wanted to hear more about them.

On the whole, this is a very enjoyable fantasy if you want to be whisked away to a different reality. This is the first book in the series, and it does end on a cliffhanger. I would recommend it for anyone wanting something a little bit different in places, but reliably the same in others.
